The Nation News paper, one of the top Nigerian Newspaper company has joined in the call for the release of Omoyele Sowore. The Nation in its editorial on Sunday the 15th of December, 2019, called on the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Government to release Sowore, together with other top news publication company like PUNCH that have advised the President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime to follow the rule of law and constitution of the country.
The Nation further acknowledged, “At the beginning, it seemed a routine of overzealous government officials with calls of condemnation were silent and, for most part, disregarded.
The Government of PMB was now known to follow a familiar script.
Sowore had spent more than 100 days in that vault of injustice before he eventually was released. The news about his release didn’t spread all over the country before another script was script stationed, within a space of 48hours, he was re-arrested. Imagine the man (Sowore) was in a court room while the DSS operatives were also found present.
The DSS spokesperson said they did not play any part in the “wrestling match” that brought Sowore to the floor. Abubakar Malami (The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice), has said he would set up an investigation team to know how it happened. Meanwhile that is beside the point at this moment.
The case of Sowore is a picture of official fear, and the government has admitted by this jackboot narrative that it has lost the argument. The DSS can never keep the publisher forever. To put the matter of Sowore beside the front burner, the Nigerian Government should permit him to go and abide by the conditions of the court and not the summons of its caprice.
