Not less seven persons have been critically injured as a result of gas explosion at Onitsha, Anambra State,. The incident took place at 23 Emmanuel Church Road, Inland Town, Onitsha, in a property belonging to one Mbamalu Patty, it was gathered that a newly acquired gas cooker exploded leading to destruction of two rooms.
According to the police spokesman in the state, Haruna Mohammed, said seven occupants of the building sustained serious injury as a result of the explosion.
He said, “On 2nd February at about 10:30am, there was a fire outbreak at one Mbamalu Patty’s house affecting two rooms of a storey building at No 23 Emmanuel Church Road, Inland town, Onitsha.
“The fire allegedly emanated from a gas cooker recently procured which exploded in the course of using it for the first time.
The names of the victims of the explosion are: Nkechi Chinyere Okafor (F), Ebuka Okafor (M), Chisoba Okafor (M), Nwabuchi Chukwutor (M), Nonso Okafor (M), Chialuka Nwabuchi (M) and Ifeoma Nwabuchi (F) they sustained serious injuries while properties worth Millions of naira was destroyed on the process.
Temporarily, the area was cordoned off to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the situation to loot.
There was no record of death from the incident as the victims are responding to treatment. Police is still carrying out Investigation.
