Missing Boy Not Exhumed From Ondo Church –Police

The Ondo State police command has said that no corpse was exhumed from Sotitobire Church in Akure, the capital, on Wednesday 18th December, 2019.

An angry mob had stormed the church after information spread that a one year-old boy, Eniola Gold Kolawole, who went missing in the church on November 10, was found buried on the altar of the church.

The Ondo state police brutalized journalists covering the invasion of the church by the angry mob and also seized their gadgets.

Femi Joseph, the police spokesperson stated on Wednesday 18th December, 2019, he said nobody was exhumed from the church premises as claimed.

He further said that the Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public to disregard rumours making round the media that the body of a recently declared missing boy in the state had been exhumed from Sotitobire Church in Akure.

It is most regrettable that this misleading information spearheaded by a popular television station has ignited an impulsive reaction from the people, leading to reckless destruction of properties and putting many in dilemma.

The church building was also set on fire by the angry mob. Some of our officers of the Nigerian Police that were sent to calm the situation were pelted with stones with many of them sustaining injuries.

This rejoinder became necessary to disabuse the minds of many Nigerians who may have fallen for this wicked lie and misinformation.

The general public should also not be hoodwinked by reports that the command had discarded the investigation of the incident as the case file is already on the way to the DPP for legal advice.

The General Overseer of the church have been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) as at last week.  As at the time of this report, the pastor is still in the custody of Department of State Service.
