The United State House of Representatives on Wednesday 18th December, 2019 impeached President Donald Trump for alleged misuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

Donald Trump has become the third (3rd) president in United State history to be impeached, after Andrew Johnson in the year 1868 and Bill Clinton in the year 1999.

Donald Trump, a Republican president, strongly rejects the charges which were approved on 13th December, 2019 by the Judicial Committee of the House, which is controlled by the opposition Democratic Party.

According NAN impeachment in the US context means indictment, not removal, and this is undertaken by the lower legislative chamber.

The president can only be removed from office on conviction by the Senate, acting on the impeachment, for bribery, treason or other acts of gross misdemeanors.

The conflict will now move to the Senate where a two-thirds majority vote is essential to remove the president, a thing that has never taken place in the country.

Donald Trump is not likely to be convicted and removed by the Senate, which is controlled by his party whose members in the upper chamber are in support of his office.

The impeachment borders on allegation that the president implored the interference of a foreign government (Ukraine) in the United State democratic process to enhance his chances of re-election in the year 2020.

Donald is being accused of forcing Ukraine to unearth damaging information on former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter who is among of his main Democratic competitors for the presidency in the year 2020.

He allegedly used Four hundred million dollars ($400m) military aid which was approved by the Congress to Ukraine, and a White House meeting for Ukraine’s president, as bargaining chips.

Democrats argue that His actions amount to abuse of presidential power for his personal political interest at the cost of the national security.

Donald is being accused of obstructing Congress by refusing to co-operate with the congressional inquiry, according to the BBC.

Donld has denied the allegations, dismissing the impeachment move as a witch hunt by Democrats and a section of the United State of the media.
