Adebayo Shittu, the former Minister of Communication, has described President Muhammadu Buhari as the most selfless leader in the history of Nigeria.
Speaking in Osogbo while featuring on a programme organised by the Association of Veteran Journalists “The Frontliners”, in Osun State. The Ex-minister said President Buhari’s role has endeared him to many Nigerians, especially in the northern region of the country.
Shittu articulated concerns that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might experience some difficulty in getting votes in the year 2023 general elections if the party does not put its house in order.
The Ex-minister on Wednesday 8th January, 2020 said; In the last two elections, Buhari got a high percentage of votes because he is on the ballot. From the North alone, he got over 12 million votes on each occasion.
If the APC government is not careful to organize themselves, where will they expect the 2023 vote to come from, when the power of incumbency will no longer be there.
He stated that; The former President, Olusegun Obasanjo failed when he attempted it (3rd term); so you think a less ambitious person would now be the one to do that? I don’t think it’s possible, so I think it is not a matter we should focus on. Hovering around this issue is a waste of time. Likewise, President Muhamadu Buhari has said that he would not seek a third term in office or pick a candidate for the APC.
He said; Buhari is the most selfless leader since the history of Nigeria. This is one President who when elected slashed his salary by 50 per cent. As we also know, his lifestyle for the past 20 years has not changed. He is not glitzy. What he is looking for is good legacy.
