Accountant Bags 18 years Behind the Wall For Defrauding EYN Church In Adamawa


Ibrahim Aku, an accountant, serving with Church of the Brethren popularly called EYN Church in Yola, Adamawa State, has been sent behind the wall for 18 years jail term for defraud the church the sum of Fifteen Million, Five hundred  Thousand Naira (N15,500,000.00).

The Justice of the High Court Yola, Justice Nathan Musa, delivered the judgment on Monday 13th January, 2020, following a suit filed against the convict by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The church had petitioned the EFCC through Daniel Mbaya, it’s Secretary General, detailing how the convict had defrauded the church starting from year 2016 to 2018.

Justice Musa convicted the accountant on a six count charges preferred against him bordering on forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.

Ibrahim Aku was therefore sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment on all the six counts charges without the option of fine.

The Justice however, said; All the sentences will run concomitantly considering the fact that the convict pleaded guilty on all the charges. The judge also gave recompense order for the convict to reimburse the amount in question to EYN Church.

In addition, he advised that proceeds of the crime recovered in the course of investigation be sold to recover the money.
